Seeking
an exchange to enhance the relationship among countries and
cultures through art, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Santiago
has systematically incorporated international exhibitions
to its yearly program. In the past five years, from a total
of 196 exhibitions, there have been 129 national exhibitions
and 67 international ones.
The
following are some of the main international exhibitions showcased
at the MAC. They were organized jointly with internationally
renowned biennials, museums and festivals.

1999
|

|
"En-Trance"
"En-Trance" of artist Yoko Ono. The exhibition
displayed a series of installations rich in symbolism.
The exhibition's curators were Jon Hendricks and Pablo
J. Rico.
|
|
|
"Memory-Present",
exhibited the most important works of the Departmental
Museum Rochechouart of Contemporary Art, France. It
included photographs and installations of twelve renowned
international artists: Christian Boltanski, Bertrand
Lavier, Bruce Nauman, Jean Marc Bustamante, Jannis Kounellis,
Michelangelo Pistoletto, Valérie Jouve, Pascal
Pinaud, Douglas Gordon, Thierry Kuntzel, Suzanne Lafont,
Gabriel Orozco and Pascal Pinaud.

2002

"Europe-
America: Selections of 25th São Paulo Biennial".
The first itinerant exhibition of this important international
biennial was brought to MAC in a reduced version of
15 artists. The Chilean version of the São Paulo
Biennial exhibited the works of seven European and six
Latin American artists, and it congregated artists,
critics and the general public. Recent trends of European
and Latin American art were discussed in the course
of concurrent symposia, round tables and conferences.

2003

|
"6th
Video Biennial and New Media in Santiago",
the only Biennial of this type undertaken in Chile,
is an instance that generates a space for the furtherance
of video culture and aesthetics. Within this context,
the MAC presented a selection of works of the Mediakunstfestival
Berlin - Transmediale. This activity constituted
a landmark in the development of one of the most important
festivals of the world, because for the first time ever
a series of works were showcased abroad.

Italian
Transvanguard, the most transcendental movement
of modern Italian painting exhibited a series of their
most emblematic works at MAC. The exhibition included
26 works of Chia, Clemente, Cucchi, Demaria and Paladino,
from the most important art collections. The curator
was Achille Bonito Oliva, who also contributed with
a series of lectures. Worthy of special mention is that
this art movement was a referent of the development
of Chilean painting in the eighties.

2004
|
|
|
|
"National
Selection, MERCOSUR Biennial of Visual Arts",
presented the works of the Chilean artists who participated
in the 2003 MERCOSUR Biennial of Visual Arts that took
place in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The thematic concept
of the convocation "Archaeologies" was presented
by the curator, Nelson Aguilar, one of the most prestigious
personalities of the Brazilian cultural world. Invited
curator was Francisco Brugnoli, director of the MAC,
who was in charge of the selection of the Chilean showcased
works.
